Speaking at the ceremony as a representative from G+D, Mr. Kunz, Member of the Executive Board of G&D, congratulated the Taiwan Government, adding that "With this project, Taiwan has introduced the world's most innovative health care card system, and Giesecke & Devrient is proud to contribute to this success and that we are delighted that the event ?to celebrate the issuing of the first Health care card falls into our 150th Anniversary celebration year.
The Taiwan health authority seeks to upgrade all the Taiwan Health Care Cards to chip cards within 2 years. According to the Department of Health (DOH), this project will result in annual savings of about US$ 200 Million for the health-insurance program. Information stored on the chip card will also be more secured since it is only accessible when used in conjunction with the patient's PIN and a doctor's card and secret code.
